I've spent most of the holiday period so far sorting through loads of old lead type in order to get my Letterpress up and running for 2011! So I though it would be rude of me not to check out Reverting to Type at Standpoint Gallery to check out what I'm up against! The exhibition is curated by Graham Bignell of The New North Press and graphic designer Richard Ardagh and features practitioners from all over to world. Lovely!

Amusing Art
I trekked down to the Tate Modern yesterday in the snow - which wasn't really as difficult as it sounds. By far my favourite artist was David Shrigley, I love his twisted humour - a perfect example of how art doesn't have to be taken so seriously.

Just my type
Anyone who has any interest in Typography should buy Simon Garfield's book 'Just My Type'. It's filled with fascinating facts about the typefaces we all know and love as well as the history and how they were created. Who knew that Eric Gill the creator of Gill Sans had intercourse with his dog as a sexual experiment...fascinating!
The inside sleeve has a periodic table of Typefaces determined by six web surveys including: 100 Best Fonts of All Time; Paul Shaw's Top 100 Types; 21 Most Used Fonts by Professional Designers; Top 7 Fonts Used by Proffessionals in Graphic Design; 30 Fonts that ALL Designers Must Know & Should Own; and Typefaces no one gets fired for using. Can be purchased from Scribble on Everything.

Vanishing Point
I popped in to see a friend Ivan Black's exhibition on Friday night and took some pics of his amazing works. He uses unique kinetic mechanisms to create geometrical forms that move once energy is introduced.
I even made a very short film so you can see the sculptures in their true form...
